New Graduate RN Resident full-time positions may be available on the following units *limited slots available in specialty areas (Central AR UAMS campus only):
- Emergency Department/Clinical Decision Unit* (Ground/1st floor)
- Psychiatric Research Institute* (1st floor)
- Surgical Services (2nd floor – main OR, Peri-op)
- Progressive Units: Trauma, Cardiovascular & Neurosurgery (4th & 8th floor – F4, F8, H8)
- Women’s Health – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit* (5th floor – F5/H5)
- Women’s Health – Labor & Delivery/ Perinatal* (5th & 6th floor – E5, E6)

Exciting New Graduate News
New graduates accepting a position into the Transition to Practice Program-New Graduate RN Residency, will be eligible to apply for reimbursement up to $500 for:
- NCLEX-RN Examination
- NLCEX Review Course
Position Specifics:
- Individual unit offers for full-time positions – 72 hours per pay period
- 12 hour shifts – nights, days, or variable (based on unit need)
- Weekend Rotations (based on unit needs)
- Clinical Orientation – Specialized 3 weeks
- Unit Orientation – paired with Preceptors for 9 to 12 weeks depending on unit & progress (Exception: ED & NICU – longer orientation periods)
Program Summary
- 12 month Graduate RN Resident Program
- Transition to Practice classes will be held every other month during the first year to build nursing competency, knowledge, skills and attitudes
- Unit specific orientation activities along with experienced preceptors in all clinical areas, who provide support and guidance
- Mentoring and support for the new graduates’ professional well-being provided throughout the first year of practice
- Division nurse leaders coordinating additional observation experiences to match the unique patient population
Qualifications
- Must be a graduate of an RN nursing program
- Permanent or temporary licensure to practice nursing in the State of Arkansas (by scheduled start date)
- Must have less than 12 months of RN work experience
- ADN or BSN (As a goal of being a Magnet organization, for those hired into an RN position, it is expected that the new graduate nurse will obtain a BSN within three years of the start date as an RN with UAMS.
Requirements

- Complete the 1-year Transition to Practice program and all monthly classes required to advance through the Clinical Ladder. These classes are created to build nursing competencies, knowledge, skills and abilities.
