UAMS is Proud to be Magnet Designated

UAMS Medical Center Achieves Magnet® Recognition for Clinical Care and Nursing Excellence.

UAMS Joins Elite Group of Magnet® Hospitals for Outstanding Nursing Care

UAMS  Medical Center was awarded the highest international recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), achieving designation as a Magnet® hospital. Approximately 615 hospitals in the United States, representing less than 10% of U.S. health care organizations, have earned Magnet® designation. UAMS is now one of just five hospitals in Arkansas to hold this distinction. ANCC is the largest nursing credentialing organization in the world and awards Magnet® status to highlight exemplary professional nursing practices, interprofessional teamwork and superior patient care.

Magnet® designation is a badge of honor recognized across health care institutions and by consumers.

Research demonstrates that Magnet® recognition provides benefits to health care organizations, such as:

  • Higher job satisfaction among nurses
  • Higher patient satisfaction
  • Lower mortality rates

About the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®

ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® is the highest distinction of nursing excellence, and UAMS is one of less than 10% of U.S. health care organizations to have earned Magnet® designation. It signifies that an organization has taken every effort to promote the empowerment, engagement, and development of nurses. See the UAMS Magnet Document with stories of Nursing Excellence that was submitted.

Timeline

UAMS submitted a document to the ANCC, February 1st, with the evidence required to be considered for Magnet® Designation. This evidence included 122 examples of evidence-based initiatives, quality improvement projects, research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and other narratives demonstrating nursing excellence throughout UAMS Health. We also underwent a site visit from the ANCC Magnet program appraisers on October 2-4. On November 20, we got to celebrate our hard earned Magnet® Designation.
