Sonia Criswell, RN – F4 – Trauma Progressive Care
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Sonia Criswell, RN for being selected as the DAISY Award recipient for the month of May!
Sonia works on unit F4 – WillTrauma Progressive Care and was nominated by a Britney Beumeler a UAMS employee. The nomination below reflects how Sonia impacted their life in a very special way.
Sonia has an amazing bedside rapport with patients. She has a way of making people feel safe and gives amazing nursing care. She always has a positive attitude and is a leader on the unit. We had a trauma patient whose husband was a patient and was recovering and was unable to visit as much as he would like. The rest of her family was out of state. The patient was in ICU for several weeks and when she came to F4 Sonia was able to set up a way to communicate and interact with her as she had a tracheostomy and was on the ventilator. Through conversation with her, recognized that the patient was concerned about the way her hair looked. Sonia contacted her own hairdresser, had her come as the patient’s visitor for the day and fixed her hair. The patient was so happy and it made her feel more normal. Sonia made sure to let other nurses and team members know to visit the patient and compliment her hair style. This is a display of compassion that is exhibited by Sonia towards her patients on a regular basis. Although it was a big deal for the patient, Sonia treats every patient as if they are the most important person and goes the extra mile with every patient she encounters.
Great job, Sonia!
