Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Lorin Smith, RN IV, for being selected as the DAISY Award recipient for the month of April!
Lorin Smith, RN IV, E4 – Medical/Neuro ICU, and was nominated by a co-worker. The nomination below reflects how Lorin impacted their life in a very special way.
Nomination: Lorin took care of a really sick patient we had in E406. This patient was there for weeks almost months. The patient had two very young children, a baby and a young girl. The last day he was there, Lorin was doing everything she could to keep her patient alive just so his babies could come say goodbye. They were traveling from NWA. Unfortunately, he passed before his children arrived. After his children arrived, the scene was devastating. His baby girl screamed, cried, and laid in that bed with her father who had just passed. She ran out the room straight to Lorin. Lorin treated the patient’s daughter like her own. Lorin consoled her, she played with her and helped her deal with her dad’s passing. From an outside looking in I truly believe Lorin was not only being the best nurse to her patient, but also the best nurse to his family and especially his young daughter. Lorin was using her compassionate, motherly, and caring skills to help this little girl understand that her dad was going to be ok and always be watching over her. Lorin’s motherly instincts truly shined that day as well. That little girl left with a smile on her face, all thanks Lorin. She impacted so many on that day, even me. I hope to be just as a good of nurse and mom as she!
Great job, Lorin!
