Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Donna K Malone – for being selected as the September BEE Award winner!
Donna K Malone is a Patient Care Technician in the Float Pool Unit and was nominated by Co-workers. The following is the story of how Donna impacted their lives in a way that they will never forget.
1st Nomination:
I have been in healthcare for 14 years, and in all that time, I have never been oriented to a facility quite like I was with Donna K. Malone. Coming to UAMS was overwhelming at first, but Donna welcomed me with open arms and immediately made me feel at ease. From my very first day, I knew I would be fine with her guidance.
Donna goes above and beyond to help and answer every question. If she doesn’t know the answer, she seeks it out. I often refer to her as the “UAMS encyclopedia” because of her wealth of knowledge. She is detailed in her training, ensuring that I know how to chart accurately in Epic and where to document everything correctly. Donna does not take shortcuts; she models the right way to do things and teaches that same standard.
What stands out the most is her kindness, compassion, and patience. She has made me feel truly welcomed in my first weeks at UAMS and has shown me what it means to be both a skilled professional and a supportive coworker. She is doing wonderful work with patients as well as with her colleagues, and I am so grateful for her expertise and heart.
I sincerely wish every new employee could be blessed with a caring and knowledgeable trainer like Donna. She deserves to be recognized for her dedication, hard work, and the incredible impact she has on those she trains.
2nd Nomination:
If UAMS had a “lead PCT” position, Donna is the kind of person who would fill the role, because she already does! Donna is one of the people I can count on to give helpful input into projects involving PCTs. She is not afraid to speak her mind. Donna is a role model for other PCTs, and this is recognized by her peers and leadership alike. For example, although she is in the float pool, Donna is presently serving as a preceptor to a new PCT on F8, Kristen Case. Donna shared that Kristen had texted her saying, “I don’t think in 14 years I’ve ever had anyone train me to the magnitude that you have. Coming to a new facility, you make sure everyone knows everything. You’re one of a kind.” That’s exactly who Donna is- generous with her time, her knowledge, and her expert phlebotomy skills. (Don’t tell her I told you that! She thinks it’s a secret.) UAMS is so fortunate to have caregivers like Donna!
Way to go Donna!
