September 2019 BEE Award

BEEJeri Jenkins, Patient Services Associate – F9 – ENT/Orthopedic Surgical Specialties

Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Jeri Jenkins for being selected as the September BEE Award winner!

Jeri is a Patient Services Associate on F9 – ENT/Orthopedic Surgical Specialties and was nominated by a co-worker.  The following is the story of how Jeri impacted their life in a way that they will never forget.

“Jeri Jenkins is an absolute star at her job.  She truly goes above and beyond when she is at work to care for her patients.  Jeri is always willing to help co-workers and patients that she is not even assigned to.  There are so many stories I could tell on Jeri to show how great she is with her patients but one sticks out to me.

On F9, we had a patient with an extensive psychiatric history, who could not communicate well to us verbally, and could easily become combative.  One shift, Jeri had finished her start of shift tasks, she went to this patient’s room, and sat with her.  We noticed the patient absolutely loved music, she could not speak to you in a sentence, but when she heard music she sang!  Jeri used her phone to keep music playing in the patient’s room; when she was not busy with another task she would sit in the patient’s room.  They sang, danced, and clapped for hours.

It literally brought tears to my eyes knowing that Jeri was making this patient feel more like a friend than just another patient and helped her find a way to communicate through singing.  I feel this patient has not had the resources to live the best life, but I know Jeri brought her some of the best hours just by sitting there, playing music, and singing with the patient.”

Way to go Jeri.

Please congratulate Jeri for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
