Sean Thompson is a Patient Services Associate (PSA) in PRI – 6th Floor Treatment Area and was nominated by Co-worker. The following is the story of how Sean impacted their lives in a way that they will never forget.
Nomination:
I want to give a big shout out to Sean Thompson, PCT. I had a patient with labile blood sugar readings that had ranged from very high to very low. At 4PM, this patient’s blood sugar was normal at 121. When Sean went in to do vitals at 7PM, he noticed that the patient was diaphoretic and lethargic. Sean knew something wasn’t right. The nurses were in change of shift report, so Sean grabbed the glucometer, checked the patient’s blood sugar, and found it was quite low at 41. He notified me and I followed the hypoglycemia protocol. This patient had a history of seizures due to low blood sugars, and his next blood sugar check was not scheduled until 9PM. Sean’s critical thinking likely prevented this patient from having a seizure. I am thankful that Sean took quick action to ensure this patient was safe.
Please congratulate Sean for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
Way to go Sean!
