Kalie Ward is a Neurodiagnostic Technologist in the Neurodiagnostic Department
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Kalie Ward – for being selected as the May BEE Award winner!
Kalie Ward is a Neurodiagnostic Technologist in the Neurodiagnostic Department and was nominated by a co-worker. The following is the story of how Kalie impacted their life in a way that they will never forget.
Nomination: I would like to nominate Kalie Ward for the BEE Award for her outstanding dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to patient care. Kal is an EEG tech who frequently works on E4 (Neuro ICU), and every interaction with her is a testament to her compassion and professionalism.
Kal embodies the essence of going above and beyond — not just in the technical aspects of her role, but in the way she connects with patients and their families. She is a quiet presence in the unit, yet her actions speak volumes. Every nurse I’ve spoken with agrees that she is incredible with patients, always providing care that exceeds expectations.
One specific moment that stands out was when I had a patient who was intubated and undergoing a VEEG. Throughout my shift, he was extubated, passed his swallow study, and the VEEG was discontinued. When Kal came to remove the electrodes, she struck up a conversation with the patient, who mentioned he was vegetarian and unhappy with the food options available. Without hesitation, Kal used her own money to buy the patient a salad and personally delivered it to him. Her thoughtfulness in ensuring the patient had a meal that met his needs was so impressive to me that I took note.
Today, I had a patient on a VEEG when Kal came in to check the electrodes. Later, I saw her return to the room and went to check in — only to find her delivering a coffee with creamer to the patient’s family member. It was a small gesture, but it meant the world to that family in a stressful time.
Beyond my own experiences, my colleague Kelsey Fry shared another example of Kal’s remarkable kindness. One day, Kal set up a patient’s meal tray and took the time to stay with her, helping to feed her for nearly 30 minutes — something she was not required to do but did out of sheer compassion.
Kal consistently goes the extra mile, not just performing her duties, but making the hospital experience better for everyone she encounters. Her kindness, attention to detail, and selfless acts of service make a significant impact on patients, families, and staff. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of recognition through the BEE Award.
Way to go Kalie!
Please congratulate Kalie for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
