Valerie Sanders is a Patient Care Technician in the Float Pool – Med-Surg and was nominated by a co-workers. The following is the story of how Valerie impacted their lives in a way that they will never forget.
Nomination #1:
Working with Valerie is always a breath of fresh air. I know whenever we work together, the shift is going to be a great one. She is respectful, compassionate, and considerate in all that she does.
Valerie consistently goes above and beyond for our patients and her coworkers. She is always the first to offer help or ask if there is anything she can do to support others. I know that my patients are always in good hands when Valerie is working on the floor.
Nomination #2:
I wanted to take a moment to recognize a PCT who is frequently floated to our unit, although I am not sure who her manager is. Her name is Valerie Sanders, and she is truly an outstanding employee.
Valerie is such a hard worker and consistently goes above and beyond for both her patients and the nurses she works with. There have been several nights when we have only had two PCTs on the unit, yet she still manages to draw everyone’s morning labs without complaint, ensure her patients are clean and comfortable, answer call lights and phones promptly, and proactively check on patients when she notices they are calling. She is also quick to respond to a bed or fall alarm and is always willing to help wherever she is needed.
On the evening of May 28, 2026, we only had two PCTs, and Valerie was assigned three progressive care patients. I offered to redistribute those patients so she would not have to manage three patients requiring vital signs every two hours while also caring for a total assignment of 15 patients, but she declined and handled the workload without hesitation.
Often, when staff are floated to another unit, they focus only on the minimum required tasks because they feel like “this isn’t my floor, so I’m not going to do anything extra.” That is not the case with Valerie. Valerie is a fantastic coworker, and I wanted to make sure someone knew how much we appreciate her. She is an incredible asset to the organization, and we genuinely love working with her.
