December 2021 BEE Award

BEE 12-2021Etucia Whitman, Patient Services Associate – Perioperative – ODS – PACU

Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Etucia Whitman for being selected as the December BEE Award winner!

Etucia is a Patient Services Associate in Perioperative – ODS – PACU and was nominated by a coworker.  The following is the story of how Etucia impacted their life in a way that they will never forget.

“Please place yourself in the role of being a patient, a patient that does not have medical knowledge.  You arrive for surgery and you are truly nervous and concerned and a person tells you take everything off and put on a gown and someone will be with you in a minute.  Are you comfortable and placed at ease?

Now imagine that the same patient is greeted by Etucia Whitman, whom explains everything so well of why and how to get ready for surgery in ODS.  I witnessed her instructing a patient recently and she even included instruction to the patient why the gown looked the way it did, how the gown works and how to put it on.  She went on to include instruction as how the patient should sit on the stretcher to prevent from sliding down and slumping in the bed.  Which PCT/PSA will make you feel the best?

Friends, this deserves to be recognized as a great job and a job well done!  I hope your Pre-Op staff realizes what a GREAT PCT/PSA that you have added.  I hope she stays for a long time.

It is the effort of numerous people in ODS that make my job of Acute Pain Nurse easier and I have now added Ms. Whitman to my list!

Thank You for allowing me to share my thoughts.

Floyd Nutter, BSN, RN
Acute Pain Nurse
Department of Anesthesia”

Way to go Etucia Whitman.

Please congratulate Etucia for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
