December 2017 BEE Award
Avelina Mare Harris, Cardiac Non-Invasive Tech III – Medical Specialties Non-Invasive Lab
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Avelina Mare Harris for being selected as the December BEE Award winner!
Mare is a Cardiac Non-Invasive Tech III in the Medical Specialties Non-Invasive Lab and was nominated by a patient. The following is the story of how Mare skillfully and compassionately cared for the patient during an echocardiogram procedure.
“I have been a patient in various areas at the UAMS campus for many years. Yesterday, I had an echo completed, one of several I have gotten, and received the most extraordinary care. Due to my scoliosis and eventual total fusion and placement of Herrington rods this type of procedure has always been a painful experience for me. I do not have the ability to bend or even lay flat at times which makes this type or procedure difficult for both me and the technician. But yesterday, that was not the case. Mare was pleasant and gentle and took into consideration my limitations. She consistently questioned me about my level of comfort and performed the procedure with great skill. She did not push on me and make me feel as though she had to compensate for my obesity during the exam. She was skilled in the way she took care of me and managed to get the same result as others who may not have been as knowledgeable in regards to caring for bariatric patients. I could not have been more pleased with the procedure, my technician and UAMS. For this reason, I would like to nominate her for the BEE Award and share my positive experience with others. I will always ask for her should I ever require a follow-up echo in the future.”
Thank you, Mare!
Please congratulate Mare for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
