Cindy Brown is a Patient Care Technician in the Float Pool Unit
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Cindy Brown – for being selected as the August BEE Award winner!
Cindy Brown is a Patient Care Technician in the Float Pool Unit and was nominated by a Co-worker. The following is the story of how Cindy impacted their life in a way that they will never forget.
1st Nomination: Cindy is the kind of team player I can truly count on as a nurse. Recently, I was working as charge nurse on H6 and a patient with a sitter became agitated and was determined to leave the unit. He pushed the sitter and raised his hand like he was going to hit her. When the sitter called for help, Cindy and I were both nearby. When my attempt to redirect the patient proved unsuccessful, I asked Cindy to step in to give the sitter a moment to collect herself while I called the medical team and the BERT team. Even though Cindy was not assigned to this patient, she stepped right in and walked around the hallway through two nursing units with him until she could redirect him back to his room. She was kind and gentle with the patient, which kept him safe and helped him calm down enough to receive further assistance.
In everything she does, Cindy has high standards for her work. She is the kind of person who gives honest feedback when asked for input on initiatives affecting PCTs. When I was developing a checklist for float pool PCTs working in the ICUs, Cindy was the first person whose input I sought. She took me to E4 to show me the present checklist and describe the workflow there. I wish we could give everyone a work ethic like hers, because then maybe we wouldn’t need checklists.
Way to go Cindy!
