Breast Center

The UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Breast Center has some of the most advanced technology available in the country and offers all forms of breast imaging, including the following:

  • Both diagnostic and screening mammograms with computer aided detection (CAD)
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Needle localization
  • Cyst aspiration
  • Core biopsy (stereotactic, MRI and ultrasound guided)
  • Breast MRIs

We are an all-digital mammography center with the only dedicated breast MRI unit in central Arkansas. Digital mammography has been proven to be superior to conventional mammography in the diagnosis of small breast cancers, particularly in women under 50 and those with dense breasts. And all diagnostic patients receive the results of their tests before leaving the Center.

3-D Mammograms

Computer Aided Detection (CAD) technology is used as a “second look” at the original mammogram, with suspicious areas highlighted for the radiologist to review. CAD technology has been proven to increase the accuracy of mammography.

UAMS has assembled a Breast Team™ of some of the most respected physicians and health care professionals in the nation, experts who specialize in diagnosing and fighting breast cancer. This team consists of breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and plastic surgeons. All surgical and complicated cases are discussed with this group at a weekly multi-disciplinary breast conference. It’s called TeamTreatment.
