COVID-19 Update
Before Coming to UAMS
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, think you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or have tested positive for COVID-19, call the UAMS appointment center at (501) 686-8000 to reschedule your appointment. You may also ask if your appointment can be done by phone or video.
Patients who have had a COVID-19 infection may have in-person appointments at UAMS 21 days after infection or a positive COVID test, as long as your symptoms are improving. Please call the clinic where your appointment is scheduled if you have any questions about coming for an in-person visit. You may be able to have an appointment by phone or video while you are waiting for clearance for an in-person visit.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
UAMS has safety measures in place to protect our patients and employees. Everyone who comes to UAMS is required to wear a mask and pass a health screening before entering the building. You will also have your temperature taken. Please wear a clean mask to your clinic visit, and do not remove it until asked to do so by a UAMS employee.
Outpatient Visitor Guidelines
Beginning March 3, 2021, one person may come to your appointment with you. You may also include a friend or family member in your appointment by phone or video chat.
If you need a wheelchair from your car to your appointment, transport staff may be available at the main UAMS campus. Contact your clinic for more information.
Please visit our COVID-19 resources to learn more about what to expect at your appointment.
About Women’s Cancer Clinic — Breast
Hearing the words “you have breast cancer” brings with it many questions and emotions. Our staff understands your fears and has the expertise to help you battle this disease.
Our breast cancer clinic offers comprehensive evaluation of breast pain, breast lumps and abnormal mammograms. A team of nurses and doctors will listen to your concerns, evaluate your findings and make competent recommendations — all in a short period of time.
New patients are generally seen within two to three days. A breast biopsy can be done and preliminary results given the same day. Biopsies can be done in our office with only a 1 cm incision required. You do not need to have surgery or be put to sleep.
If you do receive a diagnosis of breast cancer, evaluations and surgical procedures are carefully coordinated with medical and radiation oncologists throughout the state to provide total cancer care.
We also are available for second opinions to confirm the recommendations of your local physicians or give you alternatives from the breast team at the forefront of breast cancer research and treatment.
Should you require breast reconstruction, a surgeon with extensive reconstruction experience is available to see you in the same building as our clinic, reducing your number of office visits.
Additionally, some patients are eligible to participate in clinical research studies where appropriate.
