About Dr. Dickens
Clinical Biography
Joel Dickens, M.D., is Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Dr. Dickens received his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock and completed a residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. After working as a pediatrician for four years, Dr. Dickens chose to pursue a new specialty and completed a residency in OB/GYN at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston.
Dr. Dickens has experience in both private practice and academic settings. However, perhaps his most unique experience of all came during his four years as a missionary physician in Nalerigu, Ghana, where he trained and supervised an average of 100 volunteer physicians, residents, and medical students in the areas of OB/GYN, general surgery, tropical medicine, general medicine, and pediatrics. Dr. Dickens is board certified in General Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The woman that brought me in to do vital signs and assisted Dr. Dickens had her ear pod in the entire time, upon entry the volume of her music was up incredibly loud. She did not introduce yourself to me. Dr. Dickens agreed that I should have my TSH and vitamin D drawn as I requested, but failed to order it for me, necessitating an extra trip to clinic on another day.

Coming in as a new patient with a medical issue, it can be overwhelming trying to explain everything. Dr. Dickens and the nursing staff made me incredibly comfortable, and I felt that my concerns were listened to and understood, what the current plan is, and future options.

I brought my elderly mother in but I don't feel the necessary test were done. She's still experiencing the exact same issue and I don't feel the doctor did the proper test for diagnosis.
