About Dr. Dickens

Clinical Biography

Joel Dickens, M.D., is Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Dr. Dickens received his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock and completed a residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. After working as a pediatrician for four years, Dr. Dickens chose to pursue a new specialty and completed a residency in OB/GYN at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston.

Dr. Dickens has experience in both private practice and academic settings. However, perhaps his most unique experience of all came during his four years as a missionary physician in Nalerigu, Ghana, where he trained and supervised an average of 100 volunteer physicians, residents, and medical students in the areas of OB/GYN, general surgery, tropical medicine, general medicine, and pediatrics. Dr. Dickens is board certified in General Obstetrics and Gynecology.

I loved how the doctor came in and shake my hand. That let me know he acknowledge me and the respect. He took the time to talk to me and explain the plan of care for me and he listened to me and very nice and professional. The Student talked to me and he also listened to what I had to say

Dr. Dickens seemed unaware of any of my medical history - this is concerning as I am a new patient and as such would assume the information of my past medical history would have been obtain prior. He seemed distracted and dismissive of what I was asking and my concerns. He even answered/stopped our call momentarily to answer a text on his phone it seemed. I also heard computer notifications pinging constantly and from my view it seemed he was more interested in answering those messages than focusing on my appt.

Very good, because this way I feel good that they attended to me, what happens is that it enriches the reading a lot, I sat down as I was for a moment I thought they were not going to return or I didn't come over several times, but some nurse came by, but she never came to tell me that the way was coming or something, but I also imagine that it is because they have a lot of work and there are a lot of patients and the time you give to attend the tours fair is appreciated.
