About Dr. Al'Aref
Dr. Subhi Al’Aref sees patients in the UAMS Health Heart Clinic. He is an assistant professor in the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Internal Medicine in the UAMS College of Medicine. He champions the broadening cardiac 3D cardiac imaging at UAMS, with expansion of our CT and MRI program at UAMS.
Dr. Al’Aref’s focus includes clinical, educational and research goals. His interests include combining interventional and imaging cardiology, both for clinical and research purposes. He is dedicated to translational research, which takes scientific findings from the lab and “translates” them to have real-world patient impacts. Dr. Al’Aref also researches artificial intelligence and how it could be used within cardiology and radiology.
Dr. Al’Aref has published numerous papers and chapters in textbooks. He is working on publishing his second textbook, titled: “Machine Learning in Cardiovascular Medicine,” and will also focus on bringing clinical research trials to UAMS.
He comes to UAMS from Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, where he was a physician and an assistant professor of medicine in radiology.
Dr. Al’Aref earned his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. He completed his residency in internal medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Medical Center in New York, where he also completed fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology. He was a visiting fellow in cardiac imaging at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
