Susan Erickson, MNSc, RN, BC-NA, CHCR is currently the Senior Nurse Recruiting Manager. She has been a Nurse Recruiter since first developing this role at UAMS in 1995. With a nursing workforce of 2165 licensed nurses out of 10,500 UAMS employees, Susan is responsible for developing innovative programs to recruit and retain nurses, statewide. Ms. Erickson holds a Bachelor and Master’s of Nursing Science from the UAMS, College of Nursing with an emphasis in nursing administration. She has over 25 years of recruitment and retention experience, champions the Center for Nursing Excellence’s recognition and retention programs, and provides guidance and expertise to our nursing students, new graduates, experienced nurses and nurse leaders.
Susan serves as an advocate for nursing, a mentor for new recruiters and is known as the ‘Go Nursing’ recruiter. She is the Past-President of Arkansas for Nursing, a professional organization that serves both the recruiters for hospitals as well as schools of nursing, is published in various nursing journals and publications including ‘Nursing Management’ and the ‘Society for Human Resources Management.’ She received the Silver Award for innovations in recruitment and retention from the ‘Healthcare Newsletter,’ has been a guest speaker in the media and presented on various topics ranging from the nursing job market to the nursing shortage and established the first nurse driven face book presence in our state powered by volunteer UAMS Nurses!
Ms. Erickson received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association for Healthcare Recruitment in 2019 and was recently awarded the Mary Helen Nursing Legacy Award in 2021. She is most proud for facilitating the UAMS submission that lead our Integrated Medicine Service Line to be awarded the inaugural HealthImpact DAISY Nurse Leader in Policy award from The DAISY Foundation in 2020. Susan holds two national certifications as both a Certified Health Care Recruiter and as a Nurse Executive from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is passionate about nursing and never hesitates to share how our exceptional UAMS Nurses and staff provide quality and compassionate care whether in or outside UAMS!
