Lawrence McKnight, RN – F4 – Trauma/Progressive Care
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Lawrence, RN for being selected as the DAISY Award recipient for the month of October!
Lawrence works on F4 – Trauma/Progressive Care and was nominated by a co-worker. The nomination below reflects how Lawrence impacted their life in a very special way.
“I would like to nominate Lawrence McKnight for the Daisy award.
Lawrence is one of the hardest working nurses I know. I’ve seen him work a lot of overtime around the hospital; broadening his skills and expertise. He can be found on many different units, helping put in difficult IVs with his Site-Rite. Lawrence manages to stay calm and positive in every situation he encounters. Many people love to converse with him. He’s easy to talk to and loves to make people laugh, especially to ease tension. He’s very polite and has extraordinary patience when it comes to dealing with difficult patients and situations. He’s also as strong as he is smart, and is one of the first nurses that comes usually to aid in lifting patients.
When I was working on F8, I was sitting with a patient who had ripped out his IV. The hall was very short staffed, and the charge nurse was extremely overwhelmed, which included having to put in IVs on 3 other difficult patients. Desperate for help, I found out that Lawrence was working even though he was on another unit. He was the first nurse I could think of that would be kind enough to go out of his way to take on an extraordinary request such as going on another unit to assist us when we were behind. He was more than willing to help, and came up in a timely manner. Even though my patient was confused, he gently reminded him of what was going on. He expertly put in his IV, and even asked after he was done if anyone else on F8 needed help.
Even though Lawrence had patients of his own that needed to be taken care of, he was extremely generous in helping us. This is just one example of Lawrence’s excellent character. He sets a precedent that many others should take note of and follow.
Lawrence has worked quite a bit a time in healthcare, even in other roles before his nursing career. I believe he deserves the chance to “climb up the ladder” even more, and receiving the Daisy award is yet another rung he deserves to be on. Lawrence is a valuable asset to UAMS, and should be recognized as such. Please honor him by presenting him with this well deserved award.”
Great job, Lawrence McKnight!
