Bernadette Gulley, Housekeeper, 1st Floor Cancer Building
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Bernadette Gulley – for being selected as the November BEE Award winner!
Bernadette is a Housekeeper on the 1st Floor Cancer Building and was nominated by a co-worker. The following is the story of how Bernadette impacted their life in a way that they will never forget.
Nomination: As I was out rounding on my clinical areas walking from one site to another, I saw a young man in a wheelchair holding crutches. He had just been seen in clinic and was without any family. This patient had driven himself to the hospital for his visit. He was lost and trying to make it back to parking three, and Bernadette was trying to help him. He appeared physically exhausted. Bernadette showed such compassion to this patient, and asked if she could help him get to his car. To keep her from going alone, I accompanied them to the parking deck. Bernadette was gracious, friendly, warm, and so appreciated. Her compassion and desire to help outside of her assigned job role was impressive and personally humbling. It’s too easy sometimes to walk by without stopping to check on someone who might need help. Bernadette didn’t shrink away from a visitor need, she simply offered herself as a solution. Kudos, great work, and it’s people like her that make me proud to be on Team UAMS.
Way to go Bernadette!
Please congratulate Bernadette for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
