Tonya Meadows, Patient Services Associate – H8 Neurology/Neurosurgery
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in congratulating Tonya Meadows for being selected as the May BEE Award winner!
Tonya Meadows is a Patient Services Associate for unit H8 and was nominated by a co-worker. The following is the story of how Tonya impacted their life in a way that they will never forget.
Tonya has worked at UAMS for over 20 years. She has had numerous other job opportunities that she has turned down to continue her excellent care of our neuro patients. Our neuro patients are very high-acuity and often disoriented. Tonya does not let the acuity of our unit or being understaffed affect the quality of their care. She goes above and beyond for every patient, even when she has 15 total-care patients. She gives multiple patients baths every shift. She turns our patients without being told. Tonya can draw blood on any patient-she is better at it than any of our staff, including nurses! She takes splints on and off of our stroke patients. Tonya also comes in to help on nights when she is supposed to be off. She will work 5-6 nights a week every single week, even when she knows she’s probably going to be the only tech scheduled. Tonya pays attention to the little details that are crucial for quality of life, such as oral care, baths, repositioning, plugging their phones in to charge them, and just talking to the patient when they are lonely. She does all of this because she cares. Tonya doesn’t have to provide this high quality of care. Tonya doesn’t even have to continue to work here with all of the opportunities she’s had. But she works as hard as she can every week because she is a good person, and she deserves all of the recognition possible. She is an incredible patient care tech and essential to keep our unit going and our patients happy. I am grateful to have her on H8.
Way to go Tonya Meadows!
Please congratulate Tonya for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
