Oneshia McKinney, Patient Care Technician – F6 Medical Specialties
Please join the Center for Nursing Excellence in recognizing Oneshia McKinney for being selected as the January BEE Award winner!
Oneshia is a Patient Care Technician in the Medical Specialties unit and was nominated by a co-worker. The following is the story of how Oneshia demonstrated compassionate care to a patient.
“I was in my office speaking to a staff member when there was a knock at the door. It was Oneshia. She was in a little bit of a hurry and started off apologizing about interrupting our conversation, but said it couldn’t wait. She wanted to ask my permission to give a patient a few belongings. I asked her to explain a little more. She said that the patient being discharged was homeless and she wanted that patient to know someone understood and believed that with help they could overcome it. She was giving the patient some food, extra clothing, and a pair of shoes before she went back to the shelter. This just struck me as going above and beyond for her patient. She wasn’t asking for any recognition, she was just wanting to help out someone in need and asking me to make sure she could give those items to her and not get in trouble.”
Please congratulate Oneshia for Being Exceptional Every day at UAMS!
