October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month–a time for us to recognize the thousands of families who experience perinatal loss every year, and a time to remember the babies who are no longer here with us.
Perinatal loss is unfortunately far too common an event, and one that is often heart breaking, devastating, and life-altering.
For those of you who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or infant, we are thinking of you, your family and your precious babies this month. We want you to know that their lives were important and meaningful, and that they will never be forgotten.
We hope some of the information and resources on this site may be helpful as you navigate this journey, and that you will always find ways to remember and celebrate your children.
“We remember the babies born sleeping; those we carried but never held; those we held but could not take home; those who came home but could not stay.”
“We Remember Them”
a poem by Sylvan Kamens and Rabbi Jack Riemer
At the rising of the sun and at is going down; We remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter; We remember them.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring; We remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer; We remember them.
At the rustling of the leave and in the beauty of the autumn; We remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends; We remember them.
As log as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as We remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength; We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart; We remember them.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make; We remember them.
When we have joy we crave to share; We remember them.
When we have achievements that are based on theirs; We remember them.
For as long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as We remember them.
Arkansas Wave of Light Ceremony
October 15 is recognized across the world as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day; each year on this day, the Wave of Light Ceremony is held on the steps of the Arkansas State Capitol building. This is an opportunity to come together as a community, to honor and remember our babies.
For details on the event, you can e-mail info@holysews.org, or visit the event page on Facebook.
Holy Sews will display babies’ names in a slideshow tribute again this year. Families can e-mail their baby/babies’ names to the following address to be added to the tribute wall: treasured@arkansaswaveoflight.com
