Choosing an Autopsy:
What is an Autopsy?
An autopsy is an examination of your baby’s body that may identify the reason/s of death.
What do I need to know?
There are different types of examinations that can be performed. Ask your nurse or doctor to go over these options with you.
Autopsies performed at UAMS are free of charge.
Autopsies will not interfere with your plans for a funeral or memorial service.
We will NOT perform an autopsy without your consent!
Cremations and Burials:
What are my options?
-You can hold a memorial service at your house.
-You can arrange your own private memorial service at any funeral home.
-You can join in a group ceremony provided by UAMS and Roller Funeral Homes (free of charge).
Funeral Home:
Funeral homes can provide either a funeral service and burial of your baby, or perform cremation. The funeral home may come to the hospital to pick up your baby whenever you are ready, or you may choose to transport your baby to the funeral home yourself. Not all funeral homes allow self-transport. Our staff can give you a list of funeral homes in your area. The staff will also help you complete all of the necessary paperwork.
Options at UAMS:
You may also arrange for cremation through UAMS free of charge. In this case, you can either have UAMS bury the cremains in our Love Lives Memorial in the Riverwood Memorial Gardens in Maumelle, or you may pick up the cremains from the hospital. You will be able to spend as much time as you would like with your baby, then when you are ready, our staff will help you complete the necessary paperwork.
