Medications

Please give your doctor a list of medications you are taking at home. This is very important so your doctor can know the names, dosage and schedule of your medications. Since you may have many doctors providing care, it is important for all your medications to be identified when you are admitted.

Please tell your doctor or nurse about all medications, including prescriptions and over-the-counter medications and about any allergies you have. Do not take any medicine from home without talking to your doctor first. This includes aspirin, vitamins, herbs and dietary supplements.

Our medication schedule may be different from your schedule at home. We will make sure all your hospital and routine medications are given to you at the right time.

When it’s time for your medication, you will be asked for your name and date of birth before it is given to you. This is to make sure you receive the right medication.

If you have any questions about your medication, please ask your doctor or nurse right away.

When your doctor prescribes new medications, be sure to get the name of the medicine and what it is for. Also ask about possible side effects and food interactions.

When you are ready to leave, we will give you a complete list of medications for the doctor providing your care after discharge. You may fill these at any pharmacy or use the nearby UAMS Outpatient Pharmacy. The pharmacy is on the first floor of the Outpatient Center near the E Elevators.

To reach the Outpatient Pharmacy from the hospital lobby, follow signs to Elevator E, going down the hallway between the Lobby Café and the Family Resource Center. You will enter the Outpatient Center on the 4th floor. Take Elevator E down to the first floor.

If you are driving to the Outpatient Pharmacy, park in nearby Parking 3. After you’ve parked, go to the third level of the parking deck and follow signs to Elevator E. The first 30 minutes of parking are free.

You may refill prescriptions from the UAMS Outpatient Pharmacy on-line at the patient portal, MyChart.
