About the UAMS Chaplains
Our chaplains attend to the religious needs of patients and their families. Chaplains are available 24 hours a day to provide spiritual or emotional support to patients, families and employees as they deal with the difficult issues surrounding a new diagnosis or hospitalization.
Your Faith Traditions
The UAMS pastoral care professionals respect the faith traditions of our patients and, when requested, our staff will contact a patient’s pastor or representative of their faith community. We respect your traditions and cultural background and seek to provide the religious support each patient needs on an individual basis.
The clergy of many different faith traditions visit the hospital regularly and can be contacted by staff members at your request. Your personal pastor is also welcome to visit during your stay.
Samuel Moore Walton Memorial Chapel
The nondenominational Samuel Moore Walton Memorial Chapel is located across from Doc Java on the first floor of Ward Tower on the UAMS Medical Center campus in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Walton Memorial Chapel is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is available for prayer, meditation and personal worship.
Ecumenical worship services are conducted every Sunday at 10 a.m. Special worship services may be held in conjunction with major religious holidays.
The chapel serves UAMS Medical Center patients, family members, employees, and students as a non-denominational and interfaith “reflective space apart” for contemplation, prayer, and meditation.
Developed as a project of the UAMS Medical Center Pastoral Care Board, the chapel was funded by a major grant from the Walton Family Foundation, Inc., and gifts from members of the Board. The chapel is named in memory of Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart Stores and a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church.
The Samuel Moore Walton Memorial Chapel was dedicated on March 14, 1999. The Reverend Wendell Griffin, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and justice of the Arkansas Court of Appeals was the guest speaker. Special music was provided by the Madrigal Choir of Parkview High School for the Arts and Sciences.
