About the Fetal Diagnosis and Management Program
This program provides complete care for high-risk pregnancy. The IDHI Arkansas Fetal Diagnosis and Management Program (AFDM) is a team of doctors, nurses, and other health care workers. We help pregnant women, and their families, whose babies have birth defects or health problems related to their genetics.
Our team includes:
- Doctors who care for pregnant women and their babies (maternal-fetal specialists)
- Doctors who care for babies born early or are sick (neonatologists)
- Other doctors and health care experts who care for certain problems your baby may have
- Health care workers trained to help you understand how genes and birth defects affect your family (Genetic Counselors)
- Nurses at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital
Who We Serve
Pregnant women whose babies have birth defects or health problems related to their genetics.
What We Do
If your doctor thinks your unborn baby might have a genetic defect or disease, they may refer you to the Arkansas Reproductive Genetics Program (ARGP). ARGP can tell you if your unborn baby has a condition that needs special care. ARGP may send you and your family to the AFDM Program for pregnancy care. You may get the following services:
- Fetal imaging (pictures of your baby inside your body)
- Visits with experts
- Genetic counseling
- Support for your family
- Help with plans for delivering your baby
- Help with plans to care for your baby after it is born
We offer the best, evidence-based health care. We do this by:
- Working together with all the people caring for you and your baby, including your OB-GYN
- Communicating openly with the team
- Helping the team plan for delivery and care of your baby
- Giving your family the information you need
