The program’s tremendous success prompted our graduates to say this about the program:

Hannah Malone - “Being a part of the HEALERS program was an an amazing, eye-opening experience. The skills I learned in my two weeks at UAMS have given me insight on how to truly become a healer. This program allowed me to immerse myself in the foundations of working in a hospital-not just be a fly on the wall. It also certified my desire to work in the medical field. Experiences including practicing in the ER simulator and learning how to suture are opportunities usually only given once you enter a medical program. This program gave me the chance to meet people within UAMS and my fellow HEALERS. Couldn't be more grateful for my time at UAMS.”

Meredith Hatfield - “This program was just a brand new perspective on what life is really like in a hospital. I loved getting to do all of the amazing volunteer opportunities as well as learning from some very impressive people in the hospital staff. It was as if we were really working in the hospital but at a very early age and it was amazing to see how it all works so early in our soon to be medical career:)”

Sam

Samuel Rhee-“There are things that simply cannot be truly learned without seeing them for yourself. I went into HEALERS with the preconceived notion that I would be unable to volunteer in a meaningful way and the things that we learned would be redundant with what we’ve learned in school, but I couldn’t have been more incorrect. Through HEALERS, I met 11 of the brightest kids in the state. Through HEALERS, I experienced the true impact of health care. Through HEALERS, I saw firsthand how employees at UAMS and hospitals in general give their hearts and their work to the greater good rather than to themselves. That’s not something you’ll get from a textbook.”

Ana De Lira-“The HEALERS program was the best window like experience that showed me the importance of healthcare, patient care and how much I still want to be a part of it.”
