C. Lowry Barnes, M.D.:
The Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital is what TOSH stands for, and it is going to be the best orthopaedic hospital in Arkansas and in the region.
Paul Stover, M.B.A.:
We planned for the Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital to be a destination center for the state of Arkansas for any orthopaedic patient.
John Day, M.D.:
It’s basically what we call a short-stay surgical hospital. It’s designed for taking care of people who have procedures where they’re not so complex that we anticipate that they’re going to need a lengthy hospital stay after surgery.
Amelia A. Ray, CNP:
I’m excited about the Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital because, number one, it’s going to offer several new operating rooms for us to operate in. It’s also going to provide us with several beds that we can do inpatient care following their surgeries. It’s going to allow us to see patients, get them in for surgery and get them out in a reasonable time.
Sara E. Foster, PA:
The Orthopedic and Spine Hospital will also have the first surgical optimization clinic, which will help patients prepare for surgery, especially our complicated patients who live out of state. It’s hard for them to take care of their multiple medical issues. So not only can we fix their orthopaedic issues, but we can help them get ready for surgery and address everything else they need to work on as well.
Johnathan H. Goree, M.D.:
The mission of the Orthopedic and Spine Hospital is to really improve spine and orthopaedic care in the state of Arkansas and really to be the leader for orthopaedic and spine care across the nation.
Kristie Hadden, Ph.D.:
We are creating this orthopaedic and spine hospital from the beginning with innovation as our driving force. So we will be testing new technologies. We’ll be testing new approaches. We’ll be testing new ways to improve the patient experience that I don’t think any other hospital in the country is doing.
Stover:
The Orthopedic and Spine Hospital gives us a unique opportunity to have a hospital setting that can provide specialized, complex care to patients, but is unique in that it’s under a smaller roof from the main campus.
Dr. Barnes:
We’ll also have our education center there, so our residents will have a place where they can learn. So it will become the cultural center of our department.
Dr. Goree:
So I think the culture of the Orthopedic and Spine Hospital will really be to push a standard of excellence and also a culture of collaboration where everyone matters. We make sure everyone — from those who clean the floor, check patients in, all the way to the physicians, the nurses and nurse extenders — that everyone will work together to really try to make sure that our patients have the best care in the country.
Dr. Barnes:
The whole goal of orthopaedics is to keep patients mobile. We’re going to be so focused on the patient that service will lead what we do.
Hadden:
It’s exciting to work with people who are so motivated, who bring ideas to the table every single day, along with the ideas and the knowledge and the science behind how we’re going to actually do this.
Stover:
The Orthopedic and Spine Hospital is really important to the state of Arkansas because it allows us a destination to be able to provide orthopaedic care efficiently for patients that are in need of our services.
Dr. Goree:
As a native, I understand that sometimes patients have had to leave Arkansas to get high-level care, but with the Orthopedic and Spine Hospital, we’re going to be able to provide that care right here in their backyard.
Chelsea S. Mathews, M.D.:
It’s costly to travel and it’s hard to keep up with your physician when they’re in a different place. And so if we can keep that here in our home state, we’re certainly saving dollars, we’re saving patients time, and we’re providing them with just as good a care as anywhere else.
Charles E. “Chuck” Pearce Jr., M.D.:
Is going to step medical care up in Little Rock for orthopaedic and spine patients. It’s going to provide the best care that you can get in the United States. You can’t go somewhere else and get better care, I don’t think.
Dr. Barnes:
We should be the leaders in not only changing orthopaedic care but the perception of how orthopaedic care is delivered. We have to fix every barrier there is for patients to get the care they need. That’s what this institution is going to do.
Terri Pendergraft, RN:
I think that the Orthopedic and Spine Hospital will be the first place that people think about when they have an orthopaedic need because it’s the best place to go.
Dr. Goree:
I see the Orthopedic and Spine Hospital as the standard for orthopaedic and spine care in the region. I also see it as the engine that will push forward innovation in orthopaedic and spine care over the next few decades.
Corey O’Neal Montgomery, M.D.:
The Orthopedic and Spine Hospital is going to bring something new. It’s going to bring the opportunity for state-of-the-art patient care. And I definitely think that if you are wanting to be a part of something new, I think this is the place to be.
