Recommended many times already. Dr Barnes was initially referred by a MD friend of family for wife's hip replacement and now he is guiding treatment for my knee. I have recommended his team and TOSH as the "go to" destination for care.

This provider rarely spends more than a few minutes with me. He is arrogant and dismissive. The more I thought about it after my appointment the madder I got. I'm sure he is a very skilled surgeon. This is my second surgery with Dr. Barnes. He is an excellent surgeon, and the surgery itself was very successful. I fell after the surgery and tore muscles or tendons. I do not know which, because he ordered no imaging, focusing on the success of his surgery, but basically telling me that I will be crippled and will require a cane for the rest of my life. This was handled with no compassion or thought given to my feelings about such staggering life change. When I asked for an extension of my handicapped parking, the PA said, "this will be permanent" and gave me the completed form. I asked for another prescription for physical therapy (which has strengthened my core substantially and increased my stamina so I have the strength to utilize the cane for walking), she suggested I could just do the exercises at home. Then she demonstrated a simple exercise and said I should do it extending my leg with the injured glutes into the air. If I could do that I could walk. Dr Barnes did refer me to a UAMS Surgeon who specializes in muscle and Ligament repair. It was perfectly clear to me that he only cares about the surgical outcome for the surgery that he actually performed. It was also clear that he has no interest in my long-term health and longevity. It was very disappointing. I am not surprised that he was chosen to be chancellor because he has performed successful surgeries on many important people. He will be able to be a very successful fundraiser. I am very concerned about patient care, however, under his leadership.
