Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)
CDU is a 16-bed extension of the Emergency Department and provides evaluation and treatment for patients with diagnosis that can be managed within a 24-hour time frame. Medical care is provided by Emergency Physicians, Advance Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants. Nursing care is provided by Registered Nurses (RNs) with experience in monitored, rapid-pace environments. RNs in the CDU are required to attain BLS and ACLS and are strongly supported in the pursuit of certification in a related specialty, such as CEN, CCRN, PCCN, or CMSRN.
Emergency Department (ED)
ED provides emergency care to greater than 55,000 patients per year. Medical and nursing coverage is delivered by faculty, paramedics, registered nurses, residents and technicians from the Emergency Medicine Service Line. Educational opportunities exist to obtain ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications as well as instructor certifications in these courses. The Emergency Department aims to achieve 100% of nursing staff to become Certified Emergency Nurses (CEN) through the Emergency Nurses Association.
