I’m Dr. Ryan Wood. I’m an optometrist and assistant professor at the UAMS Jones Eye Institute. I diagnose things like dry eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Here at the Jones Eye Institute, we also see various cases that come over from the hospital, including systemic cases such as uncontrolled diabetes and blood pressure, as well as some autoimmune or neurological problems like MS that affect the eyes.
What I like most about helping patients improve and protect their vision is being a resource for those who haven’t been able to find one previously. Many of our patients have been to other clinics or other locations looking for help, and they may have certain conditions they couldn’t find help for elsewhere. It’s gratifying to me to be able to help those patients and give them an option to not only see better, but function better in their daily life.
Outside of work, I like to be outdoors. Being in the optometry or ophthalmology field, we work inside in the dark without windows a lot, so I like to do the opposite of that in my free time and get out in nature. I like to boat, fish, and hike, and anything I can do outdoors, especially here in my home state of Arkansas, I love to do.
