Description
Meet Dr. Mauricio Moreno, head and neck surgeon in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at UAMS Health.
In this video, Dr. Moreno shares what drew him to head and neck surgery — the complexity of the anatomy and his commitment to helping patients maintain their function and quality of life through some of the most difficult moments they will face.
Dr. Moreno cares for patients with a wide range of head and neck conditions, including skin cancer, cancers of the mouth, throat, and voice box, as well as thyroid and parathyroid conditions such as thyroid nodules and parathyroid adenomas. His practice also includes complex benign conditions and growths that require specialized surgical expertise.
He also speaks to what patients can expect when they come to see him — the anxiety, the fear, and the uncertainty that often accompany a new diagnosis — and his commitment to reassuring every patient that they are in the right place and will receive the best possible care.
At UAMS Health, patients have access to a multidisciplinary team of specialists providing advanced, compassionate care for even the most complex head and neck conditions across Arkansas and the region.

I decided to pursue a career in head and neck surgery because I was drawn to the complexity of the head and neck anatomy, as well as the need to help patients maintain their function throughout these difficult times.
I see patients with head and neck cancer in general, and that includes everything from skin cancer to cancers of the mouth, cancers of the throat and voice box, as well as conditions that affect the thyroid and parathyroid glands — such as thyroid nodules and parathyroid adenomas.
We do not only treat cancers. We also see patients with benign conditions — benign growths and complex benign procedures are also a significant part of my practice.
Something that is fairly common is that patients come to see me and they are not always aware of what is going on. There is a lot of anxiety and a lot of fear. I make it my mission to reassure them and to let them know that they are in the best possible place and that they are going to get the best care.
