Treatment/Procedure: Ankle Replacement

Also called: Ankle Arthroplasty

While not as common as knee or hip replacement surgery, ankle replacement surgery is very similar. A surgeon removes damaged or arthritic bone and replaces it with an artificial joint in order to relieve your pain and discomfort.

The artificial joint consists of metal plates attached to your shin bone (tibia) and the bone on the top of your foot (talus) with a plastic piece between the two.
