Questions and Answers
What inspired you to work in healthcare?
I suffered an ACL injury in high school and had it reconstructed by my local orthopaedic surgeon. I went on and was able to play collegiate soccer, pain free, thanks to him. He inspired me because I wanted to be that person for others. I wanted to be able to get people back to the activities that they love to do.
What is the best part of your job?
I love getting to watch my patients’ recoveries. Arkansans are typically very tough people, so they tend to just tie their shoelaces a bit tighter and put up with things, but seeing someone take their first pain-free steps in years is incredibly rewarding.
What do you like about working at UAMS?
Between my nurse and the operating room staff that I get to work with at the Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital, I am beyond fortunate to be working with such dedicated people. They are all just as committed to my patients’ successes as I am. Knowing that I can trust everyone that I work with makes me better at my job.
Who has had the biggest influence on your life, and why?
Growing up, my parents were the perfect role models. My father was a family medicine physician and my mother worked as the senior vice-president of our local hospital. They were consummate professionals and instilled good lifelong habits in me. Currently, my biggest influence is my wife. Her perseverance and grace as she handles being a full-time professional while being the perfect mother to our little one astounds me every day.
What book, podcast, TV show, or activity are you enjoying right now, and why?
I’m watching the TV shows “Silo” and “Ted Lasso.” “Silo” scratches my sci-fi, thriller itch while “Ted Lasso” is a direct hit on my funny bone. No pun intended.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
I have a lifelong bucket list because I would like to visit every national park in America with my family.
