Background
The PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to further develop clinical pharmacists with advanced knowledge and expertise in oncology pharmacy practice. This residency provides residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by integrating clinical knowledge, evidence-based medicine, and patient-centered care into the management of patients with hematologic and solid malignancies across the continuum of care. Residents who successfully complete a PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, research, leadership, or other specialized oncology pharmacy positions, as well as board certification.
The program fosters the growth of residents into independent, accountable, and highly skilled leaders in the profession of pharmacy and the specialty of oncology pharmacy. Residents will develop advanced competencies in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of cancer-related conditions, safe and effective use of antineoplastic therapies, supportive care, and interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition, residents will cultivate expertise in clinical practice, education, scholarship, quality improvement, and pharmacy leadership. Graduates of the oncology residency program will be prepared to serve as authoritative oncology pharmacy specialists and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of cancer care in a variety of practice settings.
This is the first PGY2 Oncology residency in the state of Arkansas.
