About Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

UAMS provides high quality and compassionate medical care for high-risk pregnancies, pre-mature births, and other infants requiring intensive care after delivery.  The neonatal intensive care unit is designed and equipped to care for infants as early as 22 weeks gestation. Team members include specially trained physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, therapy providers (speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists) and other staff, all dedicated to providing the best care for babies and support for families during their NICU stay.

About Your Baby’s Stay

The NICU has 58 private rooms, including some rooms specially designed for multiples (twins and triplets).  The private room design allows staff to adjust light and noise levels, to help reduce stress for our smallest and sickest babies. There is space in each room for family members to stay with their baby as much as they like, even overnight.

When you cannot be with your infant, we bridge the distance through web-based cameras. Our ANGEL Eye program is an online system allowing parents and other authorized family members to view babies via a secure website.

Our neonatologists, maternal-fetal specialists and obstetrician/gynecologists include many on staff at UAMS affiliate Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Visitation Guidelines

Siblings may visit during the day, except during cold and flu season, but are not allowed to stay in the NICU patient rooms overnight.

UAMS Health MyChart

UAMS Health MyChart is a free online patient portal that gives you free, secure 24-hour access to your health information. You can see your lab and test results, send messages to your doctor, make appointments, pre-register for appointments, refill prescriptions and pay your bills. Ask your provider or the clinic staff to send you a sign-up link by email or text. Once you have this link, you have eight hours to sign up with just your name and date of birth.
