About Dr. Shah
Clinical Biography
Vishank Arun Shah, M.B.B.S., is an assistant professor of neurology at the Univerisity of Arkansas for Medical Sciences specializing in neurocritical care. He is part of the UAMS Stroke Specialty and Neurocritical Care Team.
Dr. Shah graduated from the Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital of Mumbai, India, in 2011 receiving his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degree (M.B.B.S.). Both of these institutions are affiliates of Maharashtra Univerisity of Health Sciences (M.U.H.S). He completed his residency in neurology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, in 2016. From 2015-2016 he also served as chief resident (education and quality improvement) at Baylor. In 2018 Dr. Shah completed his clinical and research fellowship in neuroscritical care at John Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Shah is conducting ongoing research in outcome prediction in intracerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage, systemic complications in brain injury patients (including intracranial hemorrhage) and their influence on short-term and long-term outcomes. Dr. Shah is also conducting research in the use of non-invasive near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) monitoring in subarachnoid hemorrhage patients to predict delayed cerebral ischemia, determine the optimal blood pressure and to predict outcomes.
Dr. Shah has been recognized for several awards and honors. In June 2016 he received the Academic Acheivement Award and the Resident Teacher Award, both at Baylor. In November 2008 Dr. Shah was the recipient of the Dr. V.G. Rao Prize in Preventive and Social Medicine (M.U.H.S. Nashik). In March 2008 he was honored as the recipient of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Scholarship in Mumbai India, which is awarded to select students nationwide for encouraging research. From 2005 to 2011, he received distinction (high honors) in his first through fourth year of medical school training in Mumbai, India.
