Dr. Richard L. Crownover sees patients in the UAMS Radiation Oncology Center and specializes in the treatment of gynecological cancers, breast cancer and sarcoma.
Dr. Crownover's Academic Background
Academic Biography
Known for his innovative development of a tracking system to deliver radiosurgery to moving targets within the body, Crownover most recently served as professor and Radiation Oncology Residency Program director at the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Mays Cancer Center.
Prior to joining Mays Cancer Center, he was the first director of the Regional Cancer Center at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, and director of the CyberKnife Program and chief of Breast and Musculoskeletal Tumor Services in Radiation Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic.
After earning his medical degree and doctorate in physics from Duke University, Crownover remained to complete his internship at the Duke University Medical Center. He then completed his residency at the University of California San Francisco, where he served as chief resident.
Crownover is a highly sought after lecturer both nationally and internationally and is the author of numerous book chapters and academic journal articles. His clinical research interests include medical applications of advanced technology including robotics, stereotactic body radiotherapy, high-dose-rate brachytherapy and surface-image guidance, among other areas.
He is a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American Society of Breast Disease, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Connective Tissue Oncology Society, and Society of Neuro-Oncology, among others.

Yes, this is [PATIENT NAME], and I had my first consultation appointment with Dr. [Crownover] last week. He was extremely very informative. He explained everything properly and very nice, courteous, and funny. The nurses were amazing. The ladies in the office who checked me in were absolutely fantastic. I start my first radiation this coming Wednesday, and I have every confidence and faith that everybody is going to be doing what they need to do and make me feel comfortable. Thank you so much. GREAT EXPERIENCE FROM START TO FINISH. EVERYONE WAS FRIENDLY & HELPFUL. DR CROWNOVER IS GREAT, SO NICE WITH A CALM DEMEANOR. HE'S VERY LEARNED & INSPIRES CONFIDENCE. HE IS THE MOST COURTEOUS DR. I HAVE EVER MET. HE DIDNOT RUSH THROUGH MY VISIT.

I was very impressed with Dr. Crownover. It was very welcoming to have someone who actually knew the history before he talked to me and was compassionate and caring and thorough in all his explanations. So I felt like he definitely is someone that I want to continue with.
