Clinical Biography
Larry Balle II, M.D., M.P.H., is a primary care sports medicine physician who joined UAMS in April 2020. Prior to joining UAMS, he worked with a private practice and as a team physician for the University of Arkansas. Prior to this, he finished his sports medicine fellowship at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Northwest Campus Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in Fayetteville, Ark., under the mentorship of Dr. Ramon Ylanan.
Over the years, he has provided sports medicine care and coverage in Northwest Arkansas for all University of Arkansas Razorback athletics, Shiloh Christian High School, Springdale High School, Har-Ber High School, Fayetteville High School, the Eurekan Sports Festival, Joe Martin Stage Race, Hogeye Marathon, Iron Pig Festival Duathlon, Professional Bull Riding and several other local events while also reaching out to the community to provide mass event coverage and give evidence-based sports medicine lectures.
His focus encompasses comprehensive sports medicine care including regenerative medicine (“stem cell” therapy), diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, concussion and return to play protocol, and sports optimization. Dr. Balle also has a special interest in cell therapy and regenerative medicine, platelet rich plasma and bone marrow aspirate, to heal injuries naturally through your own body’s cells and growth factors.
While in fellowship training, he trained extensively in regenerative medicine and office based ultrasound procedures that heal certain injuries without surgery. He also has an interest in the musculoskeletal mechanics and how to adjust or adapt athletic mechanics to recover from and prevent future injuries.
Dr. Balle holds a specialty certificate of added qualifications in primary care sports medicine and is licensed to practice medicine in Arkansas and Texas.
Dr. Balle was drawn to the Northwest Arkansas area through a long time friendship with Dr. Casey Wagner, a former fellowship faculty member, that began before medical school. In his free time, Dr. Balle enjoys spending time with his fiancé and three dogs. His hobbies include gardening, hunting, fishing and grilling on his smoker.
