Why UAMS?
I decided to continue my training at UAMS because of the positive experiences I had with their clinical pharmacists and multidisciplinary teams during my PGY-1. I saw firsthand how UAMS preceptors train and support their residents, and I knew their PGY-2 program would be no different! As an Adult Level 1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, UAMS offers a complex patient population that will enhance my knowledge and confidence in the ICU setting throughout the year. Additionally, completing a PGY-2 at an academic medical center will help me grow as an educator and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams where residents learn in tandem. UAMS offers a robust learning environment, a supportive community, and ample opportunities for professional and personal growth. I am so grateful to have matched at UAMS and look forward to a great year of learning and growth!
Why PGY-2 in Critical Care?
I chose to specialize in critical care because it encompasses the aspects of pharmacy that I find most compelling. I enjoy the unique patient scenarios that demand critical thinking and continuous learning, the complexity of acute illnesses often compounded by chronic conditions, and the daily fluctuations in patient status that require consistent and prompt intervention. The challenges and unpredictable nature of the work keep it engaging and fulfilling, which is exactly what I wanted in my career. Pharmacists play a crucial role in ensuring critically ill patients receive the best care in the ED and ICU, and I am excited to join this specialty and contribute to such a vital aspect of patient care!
