Also called: physiatry
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), also known as physiatry, is a medical specialty focused on restoring function for people with physical impairments or disabilities. These may result from conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, musculoskeletal disorders, or chronic pain.
Physiatrists use a combination of physical therapy, medications, assistive devices, and other non-surgical treatments to help patients improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life. Their goal is to help individuals regain independence in daily activities.
