About Dr. Howells-Reséndez
Clinical Biography
Dr. Morgan Howells-Reséndez is a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor, also known as a physiatrist, who specializes in the non-surgical diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.
She is committed to helping patients improve their function, independence and quality of life following illness, injury or conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves and musculoskeletal system.
Dr. Howells-Reséndez has a particular interest in neurologic rehabilitation and pediatric rehabilitation. Her clinical interests include the evaluation and management of spasticity and the rehabilitation of patients with complex neurologic conditions. She takes a multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation, working closely with patients, families, therapists and other members of the care team to develop individualized treatment plans based on each patient’s goals and functional needs.
She is passionate about helping patients and families understand their rehabilitation options and supporting them throughout the recovery process. Her approach emphasizes restoring function, maximizing independence and helping patients participate as fully as possible in their daily lives.
Dr. Howells-Reséndez's Academic Background
Academic Biography
Dr. Howells-Reséndez earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at East Carolina University.
Her academic interests include pediatric rehabilitation, neurologic rehabilitation and the diagnosis and management of complex neurologic conditions. During her residency, she presented research and case reports involving conditions including transverse myelitis, autoimmune encephalitis, Wernicke encephalopathy, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and neurotoxicity.
Dr. Howells-Reséndez has also conducted research in virology and infectious disease. Prior to medical school, she worked as a research laboratory technician at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, studying reovirus transmission and viral pathogenesis. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Virology and Viruses.
She has presented nationally at meetings of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Association of Academic Physiatrists. Her academic interests reflect her commitment to advancing rehabilitation care and improving outcomes for patients with complex medical and neurologic conditions.
In addition to her clinical and research activities, Dr. Howells-Reséndez is passionate about medical education and mentorship. She has served as a student educator for UAMS medical students and currently mentors first-generation college and medical students.
