Description

Meet Dr. Venkat Kalapatapu, professor and chief of vascular surgery at UAMS Health.

In this video, Dr. Kalapatapu explains what vascular surgeons do and the full range of care they provide — from lifestyle modifications and medical management to minimally invasive procedures such as stents and balloons, all the way to complex open surgery. No two patients are alike, and the UAMS vascular surgery team is equipped to treat everything from straightforward vascular conditions to the most challenging cases in the state, including patients who may have been told elsewhere that treatment is not an option.

Transcript

My name is Venkat Kalapatapu. I am a professor and chief of vascular surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

I think it is important to understand that vascular surgeons provide comprehensive care of the patient. That may involve lifestyle changes and medical management. It may involve placing stents or balloons to improve blood flow or treat aneurysms. Or it may involve open surgery.

At UAMS vascular surgery, we take care of patients who have simple, straightforward, basic problems in vascular disease all the way to the most complex problems in vascular disease — including patients who may have been denied treatment elsewhere in the state.

I would like all patients to understand that when you come to UAMS, no matter what condition you have in vascular disease, you become part of our family. We are going to have a lifelong relationship with you. We will listen to you. We will take care of you. We will make sure that you get back to your life and your family. Your problem is taken care of.
