About Dr. Garrison

Clinical Biography

A native of Fort Worth, Dr. Garrison attended Southwest Missouri State University and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After enrolling at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and earning his medical degree, Dr. Garrison came to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for his internship and orthopaedic residency training.

He was in private practice for six years and developed a special interest in fracture care, prompting him to complete an Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship under the direction of Dr. Brent Norris and Dr. Paul Stafford at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa. After finishing the fellowship in Tulsa, Dr. Garrison then completed a three-month fellowship with Dr. Hans-Christoph Pape at the University of Aachen in Germany, where he concentrated on research of critically injured trauma patients.

He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the Mid-America Orthopedic Association.

My only suggestion is that Orthopedic surgeon or staff provide more specific indications of the expectations I should have regarding recuperation. The statement made by my surgeon "you broke your leg" means nothing else to the patient and any subtext is lost. The simple instruction: "a broken bone in this location may take XX to XX weeks to heal and you may experience discomfort due to swelling for XX to XX months" would make a big difference. Additionally this recuperation instruction could help explain a plan of care. My current plan of care instruction is "stay off it, move your ankle, make your next appointment." From past experience with people I know I would suspect "move your ankle" has subtext and more exacting recommendations for such movement. Thank you
