Description
Dr. Mauricio Garcia joined UAMS Health as Chair of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with a clear mission: to build a team capable of delivering the most advanced, specialized care in gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy for patients across Arkansas. In this video, Dr. Garcia shares his vision for expanding and elevating care across the entire spectrum of digestive and liver diseases. Under his leadership, UAMS has developed a comprehensive gastroenterology program, including the addition of neurogastroenterology and the integration of new technology to improve diagnosis and treatment. The hepatology program has also grown significantly and now includes the only transplant-certified hepatologists in the state, offering care for all types of chronic liver disease, liver cancer, and liver transplantation, along with post-transplant support. UAMS Health has also launched the state’s only inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) program led by a specialist with advanced training in IBD care. This program provides access to the latest biologic therapies for conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and is the only center in Arkansas offering intestinal ultrasound at the point of care. In the area of advanced endoscopy, UAMS now provides a full suite of highly specialized, minimally invasive procedures. These include ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, and third space endoscopy techniques such as POEM, U-POEM, and endoscopic submucosal dissection. These groundbreaking procedures allow patients to avoid major surgeries by offering outpatient solutions for conditions that once required complex operations. Dr. Garcia’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and patient-centered care is transforming how digestive and liver diseases are treated in Arkansas and beyond.
