Description
Meet Dr. Gresham Richter, chair of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at UAMS Health.
In this video, Dr. Richter addresses one of the most common misconceptions about ENT care — that it is limited to allergies and sinus disease. In reality, otolaryngologists provide comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions affecting everything above the clavicle, including the ears, nose, throat, oral cavity, neck, and beyond.
The UAMS Health ENT team treats conditions such as hearing loss, swallowing disorders, voice problems, airway conditions, head and neck masses and cancer, thyroid disease, sinus and skull base disorders, and complex ear conditions. Dr. Richter also explains how ENT conditions can affect the rest of the body — and why a holistic, comprehensive approach to care leads to better outcomes for patients.
At UAMS Health, our team of subspecialists includes nationally and internationally recognized experts in hearing and balance disorders, voice and swallowing conditions, sinus and skull base surgery, pediatric ENT care, and head and neck cancer. Together, they provide advanced, personalized care for even the most complex conditions.

One of the biggest misconceptions about ENT is that all we treat are allergies and sinus disease. We are actually far more comprehensive than that. We treat everything above the clavicle — from major head and neck lesions and cancers to hearing loss significant enough to require specialized equipment.
We are not just about allergies and sinuses. What we are about is comprehensive treatment of all conditions inside the oral cavity, around the neck, and within the sinuses and ears.
We also have a broader impact because many of the conditions we treat affect the rest of the body as well. We are holistic treatment specialists who understand that treating the ears, nose, and throat is not just about addressing isolated medical or surgical conditions — it can have a meaningful impact on a patient’s overall health and quality of life.
