Clinical Biography
Kalaivani Sivakumar, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and the medical director of the Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Cardiac Transplantation at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She specializes in the treatment of end stage heart failure and treats patients in need of advanced therapies like cardiac transplantation and temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support devices like the LVADs ( Left ventricular assist devices). She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine and Advanced Heart failure and Cardiac Transplantation. Her special focus is in the management of cardiogenic shock and the use of temporary and long term support devices, pulmonary hypertension, critical care cardiology, cardio-obstetrics and women’s cardiovascular health.
Clinical Focus
Dr. Sivakumar specializes in treatment of end stage heart failure who need advanced therapies including cardiac transplantation or mechanical circulatory support, such as left ventricular assist device (LVAD) , pulmonary hypertension, cardiomyopathies like sarcoidosis, amyloidosis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She also specializes in performing and interpretation of transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, right heart catheterization, exercise hemodynamics, implantation of remote PA sensor monitoring, temporary mechanical circulatory support devices like the IABP, Impella, Tandem Heart and ECMO. In addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Sivakumar is active in research and education, providing mentorship to both residents and fellows.
