Academic Biography
Ahmed F. Shakarchi, M.D., MBChB, MPH, is associate professor of ophthalmology at the UAMS Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute, where he specializes in vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Baghdad College of Medicine and a Master of Public Health in epidemiology and biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health as a Fulbright Scholar. He completed ophthalmology residency and fellowship training at the UAMS Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute, where he also served as chief resident and clinical instructor. His academic work includes ophthalmic clinical research and public health research conducted at the Wilmer Eye Institute and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Beginning in July 2026, he serves as an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
