COVID-19 Update
Before Coming to UAMS
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, think you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or have tested positive for COVID-19, call the UAMS appointment center at (501) 686-8000 to reschedule your appointment. You may also ask if your appointment can be done by phone or video.
Patients who have had a COVID-19 infection may have in-person appointments at UAMS 21 days after infection or a positive COVID test, as long as your symptoms are improving. Please call the clinic where your appointment is scheduled if you have any questions about coming for an in-person visit. You may be able to have an appointment by phone or video while you are waiting for clearance for an in-person visit.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
UAMS has safety measures in place to protect our patients and employees. Everyone who comes to UAMS is required to wear a mask and pass a health screening before entering the building. You will also have your temperature taken. Please wear a clean mask to your clinic visit, and do not remove it until asked to do so by a UAMS employee.
Outpatient Visitor Guidelines
Beginning March 3, 2021, one person may come to your appointment with you. You may also include a friend or family member in your appointment by phone or video chat.
If you need a wheelchair from your car to your appointment, transport staff may be available at the main UAMS campus. Contact your clinic for more information.
Please visit our COVID-19 resources to learn more about what to expect at your appointment.
About Outpatient Therapy Clinic — Fayetteville
The UAMS Fayetteville Outpatient Therapy Clinic offers comprehensive rehabilitation therapy — including physical, occupational and speech.
The clinic’s goal is to provide effective, evidence-based outpatient therapy for patients with a variety of diagnoses, including functional deficits due to neurological disease (including post-stroke, Parkinson’s disease or vestibular dysfunction), neck and back pain, injury or amputations.
Our therapy professionals stay up-to-date on evidence-based practice and current research to offer the newest, most effective treatment. Physical therapists specialize in prescribing the best course of exercise that can help slow or even stop deterioration in fitness or flexibility caused by age, condition or injury. We strive to find the most effective exercise, regardless of age or physical condition. We work with patients to set functional, activity-based goals.
About Our Rehabilitation Facility
Our Outpatient Therapy Clinic is equipped with two exercise gyms, a traction room and exam rooms. We also have the most experienced therapists, top-of-the-line therapeutic devices and a newly renovated 2,735-square-foot clinic space. This improves access to therapy services for older patients, veterans, athletes, those with chronic conditions or patients recovering from injuries affecting mobility or speech.
Clinic patients will have access to a range of therapeutic devices, including:
Alter G Anti-Gravity Treadmill
Allows patients to rehabilitate with less pain while healing faster. Often used following injuries to a lower extremity(hip, knee, ankle or foot), after a total joint replacement, sports injuries or for strengthening or gait training for older or neurological patients.
Assisted Movement with Enhanced Sensation (AMES) Device
One of only five such devices in the nation, this equipment enhances sensory and motor output connections in the brain for patients recovering from stroke or other neurological impairments — moving a paralyzed or partially paralyzed limb while vibrating the muscle receptors that would be involved if the movement was initiated by the patient.
Balance Master System
Allows detailed assessment and treatment of balance and posture control in patients.
