About Center for Addiction Services and Treatment
The Center for Addiction Services and Treatment at the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute provides medication-assisted treatment to treat opioid use disorders.
Medication-assisted treatment combines the use of medications and individual and group therapy to treat opioid detoxification, withdrawal, and cravings. Our Center provides several types of medication-assisted treatment programs that are used to treat addiction to opioid drugs, such as heroin and narcotic painkillers.
For Clinicians: MATRIARC and Project Echo
MATRIARC (Medication Assisted Treatment Recovery Initiative for Arkansas Rural Communities) is a partnership with the Psychiatric Research Institute and the Arkansas Department of Human Services designed to expand evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorders.
An addiction psychiatrist is available free of charge via telephone to offer consultations to primary care physicians, general psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants and mental health professionals providing medication-assisted treatment to patients dealing with opioid use disorder.
Project ECHO
Project ECHO is part of MATRIARC, weekly video conferences available to community health centers needing assistance in opioid addiction treatment. Video conferences are held each Friday from noon to 1 p.m., with experts in addiction, therapy and case management discussing a variety of subjects related to opioid abuse.

Six Bridges Clinic
Like the six bridges that connect Little Rock and North Little Rock, the Six Bridges Program at the Psychiatric Research Institute connects patients with the kind of care only this clinic can provide. The Six Bridges Clinic offers assistance to Arkansas residents between the ages of 12 and 21 who are dealing with substance dependency.
The Six Bridges Clinic, funded by a grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas, provides adolescents and young adults with evidence-based and coordinated care, including:
- Screening and referral;
- Intake and evaluation;
- Treatment – individual and family therapy, medication evaluation and management;
- Ongoing recovery.
There are no requirements to make an appointment. Patients may self-refer. Referrals are only necessary to satisfy individual insurance requirements.
Appointments are available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
To learn more about the Six Bridges Clinic or to schedule an appointment, call (501) 526-8487 or send an e-mail to SixBridgesClinic@uams.edu.
